Women in Sport Week 2025 kicks off this Sunday, March 2nd running until Sunday, March 9th. Launched in 2021 and held annually, this important initiative celebrates, promotes, and increases the visibility of women’s sport and women in sport.
The week aims to recognize the contributions of women and girls in sport, highlight the work of Sport Ireland and its partners, and showcase initiatives supported by the Sport Ireland Women in Sport Programme.
Women in Sport week encapsulates International Women’s Day on the 8th of March. The theme for International Women’s Day 2025 is “Accelerate Action—Collectively, we can Accelerate Action for gender equality.” Since 1911, IWD has been a day for everyone who supports gender equality. It’s an opportunity to celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness of discrimination, and take steps toward greater equality. Every way of marking the day is valued, making IWD truly inclusive.
